Paul Rodger Slayton

Drowned at age 54 on May 3, 2006 at Koki Beach in Hana, Maui.

SLAYTON Jr., Paul Rodger
Paul drowned on May 3rd at Koki Beach in Hana, Maui due to the effects of a tsunami surge from a 7.9 magnitude earthquake south of Tonga, one day after celebrating their 25th anniversary with his beloved wife Tram Slayton. He recently won the battle of superficial bladder cancer after 5 months of surgeries and chemos. A 54-year-old native of Sacramento, born September 2, 1951, Paul was a graduate of Encina HS, Class of ’69 and worked for the State of California for 34 years with plans to retire after recently finishing building his dream home in Nahiku, Maui with his devoted wife. Paul was a loving husband and treasured father of Shenell and Shalia Slayton and Lisa Johnson. Son of Patsy Slayton; and sisters Carol Wilke, Kathy Turnipseed, and Laura Garcia. He was also adored by many caring sisters-in-law, friends in Sacramento and Nahiku. He will be deeply missed by all those who had the pleasure to know him and forever held close to our hearts. Service will be held in his honor at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament on June 8, 2006 at 5:00 PM on the corner of 11th and K in Downtown Sacramento. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any and all donations be made to the church.

Rodger and I grew up together. Our families hung out for many years. I never got to meet his wife and I am so glad that he met a good woman and had a chance at a happy life. Of course I wish I could have talked with him before his passing and most certainly will miss him. Chuck Dunn
